I might be crazy but how does 30 days of blogging tips and mom hacks sound? I have a ton of awesome content about how to become a blogger while also being a stay at home mom or working mother. It’s not easy but it’s totally possible. And it’s time for Day 13, where I talk about the importance of date night.
I know this tip looks like it has nothing to do with blogging and that's true. This is not about blogging. But, it is about running a business.
Building a successful blogging business doesn't always have to do with blogging and making money. So, my tip for you today is to take time today or schedule time on your calendar to spend some special time with your significant other. It's time for date night!
If you don't have a significant other in your life right now, this tip still applies to you so keep on reading. You can take the information in this post and apply it to the relationship with that person in your life that is special to you. They are your rock. It could be your mom or a best friend. It's the person that comes to mind instantly when you read this.
Life comes first
I believe 100% that building a successful blogging business means fitting your business into your life. Not the other way around. You should not reorganize everything in your life, including family, friendships, and responsibilities around the blogging business. While your business is important, at the end of your life it's not going to be the thing that brought you happiness throughout your life. And, it most certainly shouldn't be the thing that mattered most. What truly brings you happiness is the relationships you build with those around you.
So, today find some time to schedule even just 30 minutes with that significant person in your life. If you absolutely cannot get it in today, then get it on your calendar for somewhere in the next couple days. Take a break from blogging and the millions of other tasks that come along with it and give that person some TLC. This is good for you and good for them which is good for the relationship. It this person is truly important to you it's not a good idea to put them on hold as you build your business for months on end. Relationships cannot grow and flourish when they are put on hold.
Date night doesn't have to be expensive. I'm ridiculously frugal, you might even say cheap. Back in our college days, we would go to the movies, dinner, and get dessert. I can't even imagine the money that we spent every single weekend. Now that we are older and wiser, we are smarter about how we spend our money and our date nights. It's not about the money you spend, it's about taking time to bond with that person. And, there are plenty of cheap dates, even free dates, that you can go on and have a great time.
One thing we like to do that is 100% free is go hiking. But, if that's not your thing there are tons of other ideas if you get a little creative. You could take a drive through your past and visit the places that hold special meaning to you. You can go swing at the park or sit and look at books at a bookstore together.
If you have little ones at home and don't have free babysitting (AKA grandparents) around, you can do date night at home. There are tons of fun at home date night ideas that you can find online. If you can't go out to the movies you can bring the movies home to you. Head to the nearest Redbox, check Netflix or even grab a free movie from the library. When the kiddos are in bed you can pop some popcorn and snuggle up on the couch.
The whole point is that you have a chance to reconnect with your partner. It's not necessarily about what you are doing, it's that you are spending time together. The stronger and healthier you are in your personal relationships, the happier, healthier, and more focused you will be while you work on your blogging business. But, don't get me wrong. I'm not saying you should set up regular date nights just, so your blogging business will do better. That's not what I'm saying at all.
Success is about more than just your business
The point of this 30-day series is to focus on all the different aspects that it takes to run a blogging business. It's not just about blogging. It's about making dinners for your family, getting the chores done, and having time to love on your family. And, it's about finding happiness in your life. I don't want you to be completely burnt out and run ragged while trying to build your blogging business because that's not going to bring you any joy in life.
This tip may come as a surprise to you. And, there are plenty of other tips like this on the Allison Lindstrom YouTube channel, along with tons of videos with pure blogging tips. It's easy to put everything else, including our loved ones, aside and put all our attention into building our blogging business. We think that those things will just always be there for us to come back to. But, successful and healthy relationships need you to invest in them with your time. So, plan a "funday" or date night today with your significant other. Or, set up a time to get together with your best friend, mom, or whoever else that person is in your life. If you can't get with them face-to-face, give them a call and undivided attention. Have those conversations that have nothing to do with anything. Build memories and have fun.
