Become a Successful Blogger Faster by Offering Content Upgrades

I might be crazy but how does 30 days of blogging tips and mom hacks sound? I have a ton of awesome content about how to become a blogger while also being a stay at home mom or a working mother. It’s not easy but it’s totally possible. And it’s time for Day 20, where I share how you can use content upgrades to become a successful blogger even faster. 

The tip I have for you today is something you can use regardless of the stage you are in of growing your blogging business. Are you just starting out and not even thinking about monetizing just yet? Or, are you ready to start making some serious cash from your blog? Either way, this tip is going to help you! 

How to become successful even faster

If you want to grow a successful blog, you need to sit down and figure out what sets your blog apart. What's your secret sauce? I'll be honest, there are about a billion bloggers out there right now.

Does that mean you shouldn't pursue building a blogging business? Not at all! It just means you need to know what you offer that all the other bloggers don't.

It's not hard to start a blog, but it's not easy to turn that blog into a successful blogging business. You don't want to be just one of the bunch. You want to rise to the top! 

One of the ways to make your blog stand out is to really focus on the value that you are providing to your audience. Once you know what sets you apart, it's your job to show that to your audience. This is where a content upgrade comes into play!

What's a content upgrade?

Content upgrades go by different names depending on who you are talking to. You may have heard them referred to as a subscriber incentive or an opt in incentive. While the names are different, they all mean the same thing. 

A content upgrade is a piece of content you created that has valuable information. It's something that your audience would be interested in getting and you give it away to them for FREE. It could be something like an eBook, online course, or worksheet.

Here's how it works. Someone comes to your website and they see that you are offering this special thing for free. But, in order to get access to it, they need to give you their email address. So, in exchange for the free item, they are becoming part of your email list. It turns them into a subscriber and they get something really valuable in return.

Why this is good from a business perspective

Bloggers are finding many ways to monetize their brands now. Blogging is no longer just about writing blog posts. Now bloggers are focused on writing valuable posts and eventually monetizing their brand so they can support themselves at home. It gives them freedom and flexibility in their job. From a business perspective, content upgrades help you in two ways.

1. They allow you to show your brand's value

Many consumers are leery about paying money when they don't know what to expect out of a brand. However, they are more than willing to jump for something that's free. When you provide them with this free resource you get a chance to show them that your brand is incredibly valuable. 

2. They help you get subscribers

If you want to run a blogging business, you need to grow an email list. You have to look at it from a business perspective. If you want to make money from your blogging business, then you need customers to make it happen.

An email list is a list of readers that want to receive information from you. They're already interested in what you have to offer which makes them easier to sell to in the future. They are your potential customers.  Yes, you gave them something for free, but you can take advantage of that by selling them additional products or services down the road.

Why every blogger needs an email list

That's right, every blogger needs an email list. Even if you don't have a product or service to sell right now, you should still be growing your list.

Here's why— as your blog grows you might change your mind about monetizing it. Then if you decide you want to sell products it will make it much easier for you if you already have an email list to work with.

You don't even have to sell your own products honestly, but having an email list would still help you monetize through affiliate links and sponsorships as well. 

Some bloggers feel that they don't need an email list because they have a great following on social media. While social media can be a great way to reach your audience, you don't want it to be the only way.

What happens if that platform shuts down or if the next trendy one comes along and your audience shifts their focus there? You lose your ability to reach them and you wouldn't have any other way to communicate.

When you have an email list, you own your list. Your followers have given you permission to contact them and no one else can take that away from you. You want to build your list earlier rather than later.
