If you’re new to the idea of Search Engine Optimization (SEO), it’s very important do a quick study on the subject as it can potentially help your readers find your blog posts. Search Engine Optimization is about using certain keywords within your content so that Google and other search engines can identify what your blog posts and pages are about.
This makes it much more likely for you to appear in results when people go to Google and search for something in particular.
My Wordpress Plugin Hack
Inserting the keywords properly into your content can sound overwhelming (or just plain vague, to be honest). But it's very easy to do if you have a WordPress site and my favorite plugin makes the entire SEO process very simple!
There are a lot of options out there but I personally love the free version of the Yoast SEO plugin.
A huge bonus is that this plugin is very user-friendly and you can also easily insert the keywords that you want to use as you are writing out your blog post. This means you can simplify your editing and writing process and save time, which is the best thing you can do for your blogger-sanity.
Once properly installed, the Yoast SEO plugin will make a new section appear underneath your blog posts and pages. It'll look something like this:
As you can see, the more Yoast "approves" of your SEO Title and Meta Description, the more that colored bar will grow. It starts out red (this is not so great) and will end up green (this is preferred but not a hardcore rule).
This rating system can help you instantly identify whether or not you're optimizing your post or page to what Yoast thinks it should be. Again, it's not a hardcore rule that you should only write posts that have those green bars but they can be very helpful.
The Yoast SEO plugin also has that nifty Meta Description preview section (at the very top) where you can see how your post will appear in their search results. I always love a good preview of anything I'm about to publish and I like seeing how other people will see it in Google's search results.
Overall, it’s an easy-to-use, helpful and effective SEO plugin that’s makes sure you get the visibility you need SEO-wise for your blog.
