I might be crazy but how does 30 days of blogging tips and mom hacks sound? I have a ton of awesome content about how to become a blogger while also being a stay at home mom or working mother. It’s not easy but it’s totally possible. And it’s time for Day 5, where I talk about meal planning!
Yes, you read that right. Today's topic is meal planning. Yes, I know it has nothing to do with blogging. And, yes, blogging is important. And, while you may have thought blogging was all I was going to talk about for this series, we have one thing that makes us different than many other bloggers. We have children! There are little humans depending on us to give them love, attention, clean clothes, and the food that they need.
We must juggle motherhood with blogging
You can't just ignore the personal aspects of your life when you are trying to start a blog. Learning how to run a successful blogging business as a mom isn't just about learning how to blog. It's about learning how to manage your home life and relationships, while also building a blog. Meal planning is one of those mom hacks for working mothers that is meant to make life easier for you. And, that's what you want as you grow your business.
So, today's tip is to sit down and meal plan for the next few weeks. You are going to be asking your family to give you extra time to grow your business, but that doesn't mean they won't still need to eat. Feeding yourself and your family is important. But, it can be a struggle because you are already juggling so much. I know, because this is what my life looks like too!
Your mind is already working to juggle all the things that you need to remember for your family. You can't let those balls drop just because you are adding in all this blogging stuff. You may even find yourself asking, "Should I even be taking on this entrepreneurial adventure right now?" The answer is "Yes". But, you have to really plan things out in order to be successful at both.
Meal planning makes life easier
Meals do not need to be stressful. You have enough things adding stress to your life, and eating shouldn't be one of them.
You never want to look at the clock at 5:40 pm and realize you have no clue what's for dinner. When this happens, it means you probably don't have the ingredients on hand that you need to make a meal and will have to go to the store. If you’re busy and like me, that means you end up eating fast food for the sixth time that week. Yuck!
It's very easy to fall into this trap! When you start building a blogging business you try to use all the free time you have to work. It's easy to get caught up in tasks, especially technical ones, and lose track of time. Before you know it, it's dinner time, your family is hungry, and you don't have a plan.
Creating a weekly menu plan eliminates this problem. I personally find that it's easier to plan out two weeks at a time. All you need to do is write out all the meals that you plan on serving. Once you do this it's one less thing that you need to worry about. You have a plan in place and all you need to do is follow the plan. However, if this still sounds overwhelming to you don't worry, I have a secret software that makes it easier for me.

My meal planning secret
I have an app that I like to use, especially when I'm really overwhelmed with family chores, extra activities, and my business. It's called Gatheredtable!
Have you ever run to the grocery store and once you got there you realized you had no idea what you needed? Maybe you made a list and forgot it at home or maybe you didn't even make one. Your choice is pretty much to wander the aisles to find what you might need. GatherTable can help with that.
It's an extension on your browser that you can use to save recipes that you find online. It's super easy. Then, when you get to the store and realize you don't have a list all you have to do is open your app. You can choose what recipes you want to make for the week and the app puts together a shopping list for you based on the ingredients you will need. This is a lifesaver!
I'm great at meal planning, but I'm not great at making a grocery list. I can tell you what we are going to eat. But, I can't tell you what ingredients I need or if I have them on hand! If this sounds like you (high-five, sister!), you will love how easy Gatheredtable makes meal planning. And, you need easy right now because you have a lot of balls you are keeping in the air.
Bonus meal planning tip
I want to make it as easy as possible for you to balance your personal life with your blogging business life, so here's a bonus tip for you: Don't be afraid to take advantage of some of the easier meals.
I loved making a hot fresh meal every single night when I was first married and when my son was first born. But, there was one day when I was trying to build my blogging business that I realized it isn't always necessary. That day I decided we were going to have sandwiches for dinner. And, guess what? It was good. My family had full bellies and my life was a little easier for the day.
Another thing I like to do is take advantage of freezer meals. Once a month we eat a frozen lasagna from Costco. It's easy for me to remember to pick up a package and then it's super easy to heat and eat. Don't be afraid to make meals easier on yourself in this stage of your life.
While today's tip may be unexpected since it's not blogging related, it's still super crucial to your blogging business. You have to eat, and your family has to eat. If you have a hungry husband and hungry kids, it's going to be hard to get anything done with your business. Using a meal plan helps make sure their tummies are full. This helps you focus on your building your business when it's time while knowing you have dinner handled.
