I might be crazy but how does 30 days of blogging tips and mom hacks sound? I have a ton of awesome content about how to become a blogger while also being a stay at home mom or a working mother. It’s not easy but it’s totally possible. And it’s time for Day 23, where I share why it's so important for bloggers to make time for exercise and fresh air.
Today I'm going to address a topic that we all know is important, but many bloggers still struggle with—exercise! Since we all know the importance of it I'm not going to go into all the details about the positive benefits of fitness. Instead, I want to stress why it's so important that we take time to be active and get fresh air. It's too important for me not to include it in the series.
If you want to hear the video where I talk about the importance of exercise as a blogger you can do that below or on my YouTube channel. And, don't forget to follow my channel to receive notifications of all my new blogging tips.
Why you need to prioritize your physical health
Every job that I've ever had was a desk job. They all required me to sit at a desk and work at a computer. But, there were parts of my job that allowed me to get up and step away from my computer.
Running a blogging business is significantly different. The vast majority of the tasks that we do happen at our computer, or a screen of some time. That's why it's especially important for us to prioritize exercise and fresh air. We need to be at our computers in order to grow our income as business bloggers, but it isn't good for our eyes or our bodies to sit there all day.
I know it's difficult to make the time to do this, but we've got to make sure we stay mentally sharp and physically healthy. This helps to boost our moods and mental health as well. If you sit in front of the computer for ten hours straight, you're bound to get in a funk. It's not healthy mentally or physically.
It's time to get outside, get some fresh air, and exercise.
Balancing exercise as a working mom
It's can always be tricky to prioritize our physical health, but it becomes even tougher when you're a working mom. When you have little ones at home you can't just drop everything and head to the gym. Some days it's all about survival.
Honestly, most days I wake up and look at my toddler and wonder what he's got for me for the day. Kiddos require our attention and it feels good to be needed and loved by them. When you're a parent you have to be flexible. But, that doesn't mean give up on exercise altogether
Exercise tips for bloggers
I'm not good about exercising 30 minutes every single day. But, there are two tips I've found that have really helped me.
1. Get a standing desk
I encourage you to get a standing desk if you can. If you don't want to spend the money on it try working while standing up at your kitchen counter. It works as a great alternative.
I really love my standing desk! I even featured it in my cleaning for working moms video. It's really wide and I need the space. It allows me to have room for my computer but also has a workspace.
Another desk I saw that was a pretty good deal was the white standing desk that Costco carries. I believe it was around $300 but that's all I really know about it. And, if you don't have the money to make the investment you can always start at your kitchen counter.
2. Involve your kids in your workout
Involving your kids in your workout routine might sound chaotic but it's not as bad as it sounds! I like to put on a yoga or HIIT workout video and let James "exercise" with me. He's really just having fun and I get to enjoy all his giggles.
Some days we will head outside together. He'll jump on his bike or in the wagon and I'll walk or run along with him. If he's on his bike I really have to work to keep up with him. He's pretty quick!
It's hard to prioritize exercise when you have young kids. I used to take James with me to the gym and he would hang out in the nursery while I worked out. However, one day he decided he no longer wanted to go there. You know how kids are, you just never know what they're going to decide. It was great until it wasn't!
Building a blogging business brings a lot of changes
This tip may seem a bit obvious because everyone knows exercise is important. But, it really comes into play when sitting at the desk so much is a lifestyle change for you. If you are leaving a different type of job you may find yourself sitting a lot more. Or, if you work somewhere else during the day and work on your business in the evening it may be time you used to do more moving.
It might not be something you notice right away. But when you sit for hours upon hours it will eventually catch up with you. It could be after a few months or even just a few weeks. It could be a change on the scale, a change in your mood, or pain in your back. You may not feel as sharp as you used to.
You need to get away from the computer, get fresh air, and get moving. Even if exercise wasn't as much of a priority before, it needs to be one now that you're working on building a blogging business.
