Starting a blog and want to know if you should be using ads right away? Making money online can be tricky and I'm sharing whether or not ads are a business and/or blogging mistake!
Pssssttt...I run a series called Ask Allison where I answer readers' questions about blogging and business. You can ask yours by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. This post is for the question, "Which ad network should I use?" Click below to watch!
So you’ve started your blog and you know you want ads...but should you be using them right away? Should you wait until you have a larger blog before using them? I’m sharing my answer today!
First, decide if you need to place ads on your site for financial reasons. Do you need the income to finance some of your larger business goals? It’s okay if you do!
Second, make sure that the ads won’t conflict with your overall blog message. Are you overwhelming your site with ads and distracting visitors from your content? Stop this right now if you are. Ads aren’t uncommon but you need to promote yourself first.
I used ads to build up enough income to invest in my business’ larger projects. It made reaching a full-time income much easier and I definitely have no shame in using them!
However, you need to make sure ads aren’t your only strategy for income. Ads are dependent on traffic (CPM, anyway) and blog traffic fluctuates throughout the year. I suggest creating your own products or services to offer in addition to ad income. It gives you peace of mind!
